It’s been great outside, and Monday’s news granted me some unexpected free time, so I took a bike ride from Bushwick into Williamsburg to check out Whirly Bird’s. Having read in an Austin publication that some guys from Phosphorescent opened it up with inspiration from taco places in Austin, and having seen pictures of their very TacoDeli-esque looking tacos I thought, “cool. Add to to-do list.”
I probably came off as either an idiot or a snob in looking up at the chalkboard and asking, “so… does the menu rotate daily with different tacos?” …and I probably inadvertently made a perplexed face upon hearing, “no, that’s… the normal menu.”
They have just two taco choices and a bunch of coffee items. Based on my recollection of said writeup, I was expecting a taco place with an espresso machine, but it turns out to be a coffee place with a couple tacos.
The coffee was great!
Anyway. I suppose the better story is that I got myself into, around and back out of Williamsburg via bike by memory/guessing, even through a side story of that feat is that I’m a little sad that the awful roads and blustery wind kicked up some glasses-scratching dirt.
TL;DR: bikes, Williamsburg, tacos, coffee, glasses.
