you are right. I just moved last month and spent the month previous looking for a place. Austin is 100% leased with 98% occupancy rates. Space is valuable, not people.
I believe it. And that whole space > people thing is inevitable in highly-populated areas; I get that they’re a business. It just sucks to be treated like I’m sitting here saying, “hey, I want a couple months for free, ok guys… mmmkay?”
I’m being offered an extra month (and pulling teeth for a possible second) for $200 additional per month. That’s a pretty sweet deal for them if I take it.
If they were smart, they would offer me ALL of the post-lease-priced month-to-month months my little heart desired, but they’re being buttheads instead.
They’re getting far more notice than necessary, in many ways, and I wouldn’t have otherwise found out until I were to renew that the price was hiking.
I wish her husband was the one who dealt with the business side because he is really cool and helpful. I’m just not into calling him up in attempt to play good cop / bad cop at this point with them.
I also know my unit is the last of theirs that is pre-upgrade/renovation. Two years ago when I was signing the lease, I was supposed to take one particular space; the tenant was buying a house. All of that fell through and she stayed put, so I was wait-listed and they put me right into the next unit that opened without renovating the interior as they have been doing to other units. That may be lending itself to her GTFO attitude, but it still doesn’t mean she isn’t being a jerk!
