I'm Here.

Right now: Austin, Texas
This one time: Richmond, Virginia
Once upon a time: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
From time to time: Brooklyn, New York

Grant me the serendipity to change
the things I cannot accept.

I knocked on my newish neighbors’ door. They are loud; they moved in when I was out of town, a few out-of-townings ago. I’d knocked before, actually. Two months ago, at this point. It went unheard because of just how loud the loud was.

They are definitely breaking the rules of our landlord’s lease with the kinds of loud they are (amplifiers are involved), and something has already been said about it to them.

I’ve been sick in bed and had just fallen asleep after one helluva coughing fit and started dreaming when I heard the buzz, clicks and hum of an amp being turned on and a bass plugged in. And then I waited for either sleep or more noise to come.

Drum beats.

Guitar.

So I threw clothes on and knocked, and it was along the lines of (a very sick and groggy but trying to be cheerful) “Hey, I’m Marisa. I live next door [thumb point to the right]. We share [pointing] that wall and I have just one bedroom. Every sound from rooms that are along that wall bounces right into my bedroom. That was not the case with the previous tenants and—”

And he says something along the lines of, “Oh. Yeah. Sure. No problem. By the way, I’m [name].” [Reaches hand out for handshake].

I give him a sturdy handshake and say, “Nice to meet you, [name]. Again, Marisa. So—” And then he SLAMS THE DOOR SHUT AND THROWS SOMETHING THAT HITS TWO SURFACES (my guess, wall then floor).

Thanks for letting me get to the part where I help solve this problem, bro.
