Post-hurricane.
There’s minor interior water damage. Power stayed on, water is running. We’re about to ride bikes around Brooklyn. Find food, snap photos…

“When you’re young, you look at television and think, There’s a conspiracy. The networks have conspired to dumb us down. But when you get a little older, you realize that’s not true. The networks are in business to give people exactly what they want. That’s a far more depressing thought. Conspiracy is optimistic! You can shoot the bastards!”

But the situation improved...
…because a few steps later I found a small package at my door.
Inside: a note from Peter and 4 of my favorite non-homemade brownies in the entire world, which I had noticed back in May at Hana Food in Brooklyn but haven’t had since I lived in Richmond because I can’t find them anywhere (and am not out of my mind enough [yet] to order them by mail).
I’m experiencing an...

The landscapers my landlords use have once again butchered my garden, this time bringing me from beyond, “Man, what idiots…” to the point of tears.
While leaving a voice mail describing the situation to my landlords, I couldn’t find the words and finished off with, “—honestly, my garden looks like shit.”

Peter: Some friends who didn't meet you last time are excited to hang out while you're in town.
Me: Awesome!
Peter: I told them you were funny.
Me: Why would you lie to your friends like that?

This is now a guessing game.
“…Like this morning: I’m sitting in the shower, shaving my legs and armpits, thinking “this has got to be one of The. Most. Ridiculous. Things that I do regularly as a human being on the planet earth. How in the world did this become normal?! This is as far from normal as a dog with a boob job… or hell, as a dog living in a human’s house, eating human food....

How to be a tired person.
Heat soup, turn off stove, pour soup into a bowl.
Clean the pot, fill a glass with water, turn off kitchen lights.
Bring glass into bedroom, set glass on bedside table, get into bed.
Turn off light, why am I still hungry? Get up and eat soup.

So much information, so little knowledge.
I only read Playboy for the articles.
I only read the newspaper for the comics.
I only read the news for the comments.

Facepalm (A.K.A. I can copy/paste, too).
People on Facebook: Thank you Florida, Kentucky, and Missouri whom are the first states that will require drug testing when applying for welfare. Some people are crying and calling this unconstitutional. How is this unconstitutional? It's OK to drug test people who work for their money but not those who don't? Re-post this if you'd like to see this done in all 50 states.
Me: Welfare refers to a broad discourse which may hold certain implications regarding the provision of a minimal level of wellbeing and social support for all citizens without the stigma of charity. This is termed "social solidarity". [Wikipedia]
Me, continuing: Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations. This is reflected in the individual pursuing reward and/or relief by substance use and other behaviors. The addiction is characterized by impairment in behavioral control, craving, inability to consistently abstain, and diminished recognition of significant problems with one’s behaviors and interpersonal relationships. Like other chronic diseases, addiction can involve cycles of relapse and remission. Without treatment or engagement in recovery activities, addiction is progressive and can result in disability or premature death. [American Society of Addiction Medicine]
