Ten-day forecast: Day 3.
Day Three: Eight ways to win my heart.
Introduction: I’m answering this based on long-term friendships and past relationships that are still friendships.
1. Don’t be a perfectionist. OCD behavior, panic attacks over spilled water, obsessing over tiny details that are irrelevant to the big picture? Neither of us will find space in our hearts for each other.
2. You genuinely love...
Ten-day forecast: Day 2.
Day Two: Nine things about myself.
1. Dabbling is a way of life. You’ll find that this list supports that statement.
2. I’ve always been a career and work-focused type and enjoy learning by doing.
3. Writer & musician always.
4. Dance teacher (tap, jazz, ballet, acrobatics) from late teens into early 20s in Florida.
5. I never pursued a degree. While working full-time I spent...

Ten-day forecast: Day 1.
Day One: Ten things you find as a pet peeve.
1. When a person’s behavior clearly reflects that he truly and painfully believes himself to be any more unique or amazing than any of the 6,877,800,000+ other food-eating, sleep-needing, baby-making, excrement-taking, money-loving, intimacy-desiring, sex-having humans alive on the planet at this very -or any other- moment in time. The great...

“People never explain to you exactly what they think and feel and how their thoughts and feelings work, do they? They don’t have time. Or the right words. But that’s what books do. It’s as though your daily life is a film in the cinema. It can be fun, looking at those pictures. But if you want to know what lies behind the flat screen you have to read a book. That explains...

“…Compared to their less intelligent counterparts, more intelligent individuals go to bed later on weeknights (when they have to get up at a certain time the next day) and on weekends (when they don’t), and they wake up later on weekdays (but not on weekends, for which the positive effect of childhood intelligence on adult nocturnality is not statistically significant).”

“Any word you have to hunt for in a thesaurus is the wrong word. There are no exceptions to this rule.”
— Stephen King
I’d agree with this if he’d substituted “exceptions” with “benefits.”
Rules that discourage people from learning new things produce better Maoists than writers.
[said the web’s most vocal fan of On Writing.]
Agreeing with the disagreement.

I filled my car with fancy expensive gasoline, took it for eight miles of a pedal-to-the-metal joy ride, and it runs perfectly.
Totally in love with my ten-year-old car, all over again.

Scooters in Austin.
All that mess aside, anyone have any experience driving a scooter around Austin? Pros, cons, tips? I really want one, but hills and winding roads are so very other-worldly to me.
Good news?
The car place quoted me $500, and for things unrelated to the issue at hand: ”well we have to do these things before getting to the next problem.” Sure.
The IT guys I sit near were like, “Wait. What’s going on with it?” And they both said, “You probably just got bad gasoline.” Which is a huge possibility, as I had fueled up from empty at a random station...

All These Dear Diaries.
Today we headed south to visit the private studios of some of the artists who work for a company here in Austin that creates pieces for my brother’s shop in Richmond.
Tonight we’re meeting up with Doug, one of Justin’s former employees who also interned at RVA Mag when I was editing for it.
Justin leaves first thing in the morning. I left things in my car that are needed for...

Man.
So my car died today. Not dead and gone; just driving irregularly enough to be a concern. Our guess is there’s a fuel injection issue — maybe the filter, maybe the pump… la-di-dah. It’s at a shop… and will be there through at least Monday.
